Discover the behind-the-scenes of our latest Galaxy Diorama project, including resin prototypes, 1:6 scale action figures, and a tribute to a legendary filmmaker.
A Bold New Project
We’ve been quiet for a while, and you might be wondering what’s keeping us busy at Galaxy Diorama. We had promised highly detailed STL files of the Millennium Falcon cargo hold—but while working on those 3D files, we were completely captivated by a new idea that we just couldn’t resist.
We immediately jumped into a bold project: creating a fully posable 1:6 scale action figure of the legendary filmmaker behind Star Wars: George Lucas. That’s right—we are paying tribute to the man whose vision brought this galaxy far, far away to life.
The project is a true team effort: Richard and I are handling the sculpture, Marco has produced detailed resin prints to craft the prototype of the head, and Sara will bring it to life with painting skills focused on the face and hands. Our goal is a fully articulated figure in the style of Sideshow and Hot Toys, featuring a realistic sculpt and paintwork, along with iconic clothing: plaid shirt, jeans, and sneakers. We are also considering some unique scene accessories to make this tribute even more special.
A Detailed Resin Prototype of the Head
One of the most exciting milestones so far has been the creation of the first resin print of the head prototype. Every detail is captured, from facial features to expression, giving us a tangible preview of the final figure. Seeing it in hand truly brings the vision to life and motivates us to push the project even further.
Why This Version?
We chose to depict George Lucas during the prequel trilogy era (1999–2005): The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. This was the version of him that first inspired me as a child when The Phantom Menace ignited my love for Star Wars. Watching the Disney+ documentary Light & Magic, I saw Lucas reflecting with pride on his work in visual effects and digital cinema during that period.
This figure represents him at the height of his innovation and dedication to pushing the boundaries of filmmaking.
A Tribute to the Master Behind the Saga
For us, the real heroes are not only the characters on screen but the artists behind the camera. George Lucas is the grand master of this creative council—the Yoda of a generation of visionary filmmakers and innovators.
This project celebrates him not just as the creator of a beloved saga, but as a pioneer who transformed cinema through digital technology, high-definition filming, and groundbreaking visual effects at Industrial Light & Magic.
Digital Innovation and Cinematic Vision
Lucas’ prequel-era work revolutionized filmmaking. From shooting Attack of the Clones in nascent digital HD technology to developing an entirely new workflow for ILM, he embraced every challenge to elevate storytelling.
As ILM engineer Fred Meyers explained, digital filming required new crew roles, refined lighting, careful focus strategies, and a pipeline that could handle pristine HD footage. These innovations ensured that every scene could be captured and manipulated with unprecedented precision, allowing filmmakers to merge live-action and miniature effects seamlessly.
Follow the Journey
This is just the beginning. We’ll continue sharing progress on this George Lucas action figure project both here on the Holocron blog and on our Instagram @galaxy_diorama, through stories and posts.
