How AI Helps Us Design Believable Galaxies
In the world of Star Wars dioramas, detail is not just an added value — it is what makes a scene believable.
Correct proportions, accurate scale, and objects that feel coherent with the original universe are what separate a simple “inspired by” model from a diorama that looks like it came straight from a movie frame.
At Galaxy Diorama, alongside 3D printing, modeling, and painting, we also use artificial intelligence as a support tool during the design phase. Not as a shortcut, but as a powerful ally that improves accuracy, research, and visualization.
Why Use Artificial Intelligence When Designing a Diorama
One of the most complex challenges when recreating a Star Wars scene is understanding the real size of environments.
Film sets often rely on forced perspective, partial constructions, and visual tricks designed specifically for the camera.
Without official measurements, recreating correct proportions requires extensive analysis. This is where artificial intelligence becomes an extremely valuable tool.
Analyzing Set Proportions Directly from the Movies
At Galaxy Diorama, we primarily use AI to study the dimensions and proportions of original Star Wars sets.
Our workflow starts with a single movie frame. We upload the image to ChatGPT and provide a certain reference, such as the known height of the actor appearing in the scene. From this information, the AI can estimate the proportions of the environment, architectural elements, and props.
This method allows us to obtain coherent dimensional ratios, which become the foundation for diorama design, 3D modeling, and 3D printing.
A Major Time Saver During the Design Phase
Using artificial intelligence during the design process dramatically reduces production time.
In the past, we had to analyze multiple frames from the same movie, compare different camera angles, and manually verify object proportions. This was a long process and often open to interpretation.
Today, thanks to AI-based analysis, this step becomes more reliable, more precise, and much faster.
With a single frame and a known reference, we can quickly obtain consistent proportions and make solid design decisions from the very beginning, avoiding later corrections.
This leads to a more efficient workflow and leaves more time for the creative and handcrafted aspects of the project.
From Analysis to 3D Modeling
Once the proportions are defined, we move on to modeling.
The data obtained through AI helps us set the correct scale for the diorama and design architectural structures that feel authentic to the Star Wars universe.
For 3D model generation, we also use Meshy , an AI tool we rely on mainly to create props such as chairs, vases, and secondary decorative elements.
AI as a Visualization and Design Tool
The 3D models generated with Meshy are never the final result.
They are imported into our modeling software and manually traced, refined, and optimized for scale and 3D printing.
This approach helps us especially during the visualization and design phase, speeding up the process while maintaining full artistic and technical control. AI becomes a starting point, not a replacement for craftsmanship.
Craftsmanship Meets Technology
A diorama is still built through research, modeling, 3D printing, painting, and attention to detail.
Artificial intelligence does not remove the handmade aspect — instead, it strengthens it by helping us respect the proportions and visual language of Star Wars even more faithfully.
When Technology Serves Passion
At Galaxy Diorama, we believe technology should always serve passion.
Artificial intelligence allows us to transform a single movie frame into a tangible, physical, three-dimensional project.
Because building a Star Wars diorama is not just about recreating a scene.
It is about stepping inside that galaxy far, far away, understanding its scale, atmosphere, and visual balance, and rebuilding it with respect, care, and dedication.
This is where craftsmanship and innovation truly meet — and where every Galaxy Diorama project begins.
